Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects protruding ears caused by a malformation of the ear cartilage. This is remodelled and brought closer to the nape of the neck.

Anaesthesia and hospitalization

The intervention may be carried out in a day hospital setting with local anaesthesia. The procedure usually lasts about one hour and a half.

Following the procedure, the patient is fitted with a bandage around the head to protect the ears. The bandage must be kept for about 3 days. Suturing is usually done with absorbable sutures. Swelling tends to disappear in about one week, while bruises will take two weeks to disappear.
