The removal of scars is the ultimate plastic surgery procedure. Superficial scars may be corrected with laser peeling (resurfacing). More complex scars are normally treated in two phases. They are initially corrected surgically and later “smoothed” over with the help of a laser peeling.
Anaesthesia and hospitalization
The intervention may be carried out in a day hospital setting with local anaesthesia. The duration of the procedure depends on the dimensions and type of scar.
Medication includes the application of specific antiallergic plasters. Sutures are removed between the fifth and seventh day after the operation. All scars generally present reddening, which disappears in time.
